Skin and What You Eat....•

I love to read whatever I can about skin care. It's one thing to put goop all over your skin - however, if you aren't looking after what you put into your body - well, you can't expect a product to do everything for you. It's important to realize that what we put into our bodies has an influence on that healthy glow we all desire.
For many of us we believe the five elements: fire, earth, wood, metal and water are connected to many of our particular organs. We know that our digestive system influences our immune system and this consists of our lungs, colon and skin and metal is the element that influences our skin - although each organ system nourishes the next. For instance we know from scientific research that 70 percent of your immune system resides in your gut. In many ways so much of our health is connected to digestive weakness. Too much worry or poor diet can cause imbalance in your digestive system( your earth element). Signs of digestive weakness - like inflammatory bowel disease or autoimmune disease or even lung symptoms , like sinusitis or chronic lung congestion. So in order to heal the root cause of an immune condition (your metal element) you need to strengthen the digestive system - see - it's all interconnected - and this paragraph just lightly touches on a healing that is complex and yet basic and should have us looking at other than popping a pill into our mouths or slapping skin care on our faces and expecting to look beautiful!
Some of the foods we can eat to give us healthy skin and a healthy body are:
Miso: We could be boring and tell you to have yogurt because it has a lot of probiotics, and probiotics are great for your skin, digestive system, and bloat control. But you've heard that a billion times before, and it's not exactly helpful if you're lactose intolerant. Instead, try miso - it has all the same healthy bacteria for your gut health -which will in turn, lead to healthy skin.
Artichokes: It's certainly one of my favorites green in the veggie section - I even keep preserved jars of this beauty in my cupboard in the winter and add it to my salsa. Artichokes contain the flavonoid silymarin, a an antioxidant that can protect the liver and help clear blemish-prone skin
Sweet potatoes: . Sweet potatoes are a great option because of their high levels of vitamin A. Vitamin A derivatives have been shown to help reduce oil production in the skin, and are used to treat acne.
Avocados: High levels of healthy oils and vitamin E, both of which are found in avocados, provide the building blocks for healthy skin cell function and also keep your skin hydrated.
Salmon: those fatty acids also contribute to the production of collagen, a protein that "helps keep the skin foundation strong and wrinkle-free
Tomatoes: The salad fave is one of the best sources of lycopene, an anti-aging antioxidant. We know that lycopene is more easily absorbed by your body when it is cooked - so get boiling that sauce down! I love to grow my own tomatoes and I freeze them for the winter soups and stews so that I have lots of lycopene in my diet.
