What is Wellness?•
Publié le mars 09 2021
One definition of wellness I found described the word as: an approach to healthcare that emphasizes preventing illness and prolonging life, as opposed to emphasizing treating diseases.
Wellness is a full and complex merge of the physical, mental and spiritual well-beings. It is a true relationship that leads to quality of life.
Wellness has seven dimensions. Each dimension contributes to your sense of wellness or your quality of life, and each affects and overlaps the others. At times one may be more prominent than others. We do know if you neglect any one dimension for any length of time this has adverse effects on your overall health. The seven dimensions are: Physical, Emotional, Intellectual, Social, Spiritual, Environmental and Occupational. This is a lot of responsibility for one person to balance, especially in these unprecedented times of a pandemic.
Wellness is an individual pursuit and although we have a responsibility for our healthy choices it is also significantly influenced by the physical, social and cultural environments in which we live.
Wellness is a term that is so many times is confused with the words - health, wellbeing and happiness. While there are common elements among these words, wellness stands on its own by not referring to a static state of being. In other words health, wellbeing and happiness are certainly a state of being. Wellness is associated with the action of being aware and making choices where the focus is toward an outcome of health and wellbeing.
To look at all seven dimensions of wellness it would open an entire lecture - so for the purpose of these trying times we live in I would encourage you to certainly look perhaps focus on a concept of self-care for the purpose of your wellness.
Let me share with you what I do to encompass a number of these dimensions. When life is dishing you out a plate full of stress and confusion, take the time to schedule some down-time. I go to Kawartha Lakes Wellness Company website and order myself some great products that focus on spa time. Shower steamers that release a wonderful aroma of essential oils when I am having a shower while using handcrafted soaps and shampoos and conditioners that are natural and without harmful additives and preservatives. Natural skin care products for my much thirsty skin... a bath bomb for an evening in a lush lavender bath when enjoying peace and quiet. Lastly, I cannot forget about the great selection of teas, yes, tea can be more than just a cup of goodness - it can be a ritual, a time to enjoy soothing tranquility while writing in my journal....or this blog. Best of all after purchasing and enjoying these fabulous natural and handcrafted products, I can confidently hold my head up knowing that I am moving toward a healthier lifestyle as well as embracing the footprint I leave behind on this earth - knowing that these products are not harsh or unkind to our planet.
